The Wang Theater in Boston MA, now part of the Citi Performing Arts Center, was established in 1925 as the Metropolitan Theater, one of the luxurious movie houses of its era. Through the name was changed often through the years, the theatre has remained a special place in the hearts of Bostonians. This film was commissioned by the Board of the Wang Theater to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the theater and to document all of its various incarnations. In just under 18 minutes, the film covers 75 years of history through the voices and memories of people who have helped to keep the theater at the center of Boston’s cultural scene, and those for whom it has been integral to their own family’s lives. From a patron’s recollections of a first date in the theatre, to performers’ memories of singing in the lobby, to stories of annual trips to the Nutcracker at Christmas, the theatre’s history is rich and varied. The visuals combine historical photographs, restored film footage from 1925, and original footage shot by M&M films in the theater. The musical score was composed and performed by Josiah Spaulding, the Wang Center CEO. This clip is 6:22 in length. To request a copy of the complete film, please contact us via our Contact Page. |
