Suskind Film Update #2~ November 29, 2005
Hello Friends!
We are just back from celebrating American Thanksgiving with our cousins in Rhode
Island and we have some exciting news for this second film update.
The DVD is finished and was delivered just a few hours before the holiday last week! It looks great and we
are excited about getting copies to everyone. Look for a separate email from me about the delivery of your copy(ies).
The Soundtrack CD is at the duplicator and should be ready very soon.
The Website will have new pages soon with information about ordering the DVD and CD, and some other new pages.
We have now applied to 11 more Film Festivals all around the U.S. They take place between February and July
next year, so we will be notified by the festival committees about six weeks before each one. We’ll keep you posted.
Unfortunately, we’ve also had our first rejection… just last night we had an email from the Sundance Film
Festival that reads:
“Thank you for submitting your film to the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Regretfully, I must inform you that it
was not selected by our committee. We appreciate having had the opportunity to view your work, and want you to know
that the decision was a difficult one, as we saw many more worthy films than we had space for.”
Oh well, we knew it was a long shot.
We are still waiting to hear about Berlin (February) and, in the spring, we will apply to IDFA
(International Documentary Festival Amsterdam) for next November.
Ries Vanderpol has conducted screenings and discussion groups at Boston University and Lesley College in Cambridge.
We have tentative dates for several community screenings in 2006.
Fundraising efforts will be quiet between now and the New Year, but we are working on dates for some potentially
lucrative parties in New York, Baltimore, Boston and London for early 2006. Karen has a “big push” planned for January!
And the best news of all – the PARTY IN AMSTERDAM!
Thanks to Krijn Meerburg (Piet’s son), we will have a screening of “Secret Courage” at the
Uitkijk Theater (Prisengracht 452) on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 1:00 in the afternoon.
We will then walk to DeBalie (Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen 10) for a reception with light
refreshments from 3:00-5:00. We will be inviting the 20 film participants who live in
the Netherlands plus anyone who is able to travel from the U.S. There is seating for
150 at the theater, so please plan to bring friends and family members if you like.
I will have much more detailed information available soon, but please mark your calendars!
Tim and I will arrive in Amsterdam on Thursday, February 9 and plan to be in the Amsterdam/The Hague area
through Sunday. We will then go up to Harlingen for a few days (shhh…Fred & Theresa don’t know we’re staying
with them yet!) and fly home from Amsterdam on Thursday, February 16.
So we are still very busy but, with the DVD finished, we feel that our “baby” is ready to go out into the world.
It should be an exciting year and we look forward to sharing it with all of you.
Fondly,
Karen & Tim |
